Chairman’s Message

Since the inception of the Nawaloka Piling arm in 1993, it has been my privilege to witness and oversee the growth of NPL in becoming Sri Lanka’s piling market leader and best equipped piling contractor with much of the country’s landmark structures being included in our portfolio. Today, we are an award winning specialist in pile foundations with a reputation for quality, reliability and experience. The transformation of Nawaloka Piling to date would not have been possible if it weren’t for the commitment, energy and enthusiasm of our employees. On behalf of the management team, I would like to thank all of our employees for their continuous dedication. We are honored to work on some of the most impressive and exciting projects in the country which directly contribute towards our nation’s development. Safety is at the heart of our company ethos and culture which the management team is creating at Nawaloka Piling, especially since most of the work we undertake is inherently dangerous. It is for this reason that we always take measures which eradicate risk or mitigate it where it cannot be completely eliminated. It is of paramount importance to us that we always strive to do more to make our industry safer. Through the years, we have consistently invested in state-of-the art machinery and human resources that support innovative and sound construction solutions, to facilitate successful completion of all types of building projects. These achievements have been recognised by the national construction industry development body, ICTAD. In 2005, Nawaloka Piling was honoured with the Construction Excellence Award by ICTAD, for the piling works for the high rise apartment complex, Empire Residential Developments in Colombo 02. Our work was recognised by ICTAD again in 2007, for the super structure and sheet pile works of the Colombo Sewerage rehabilitation project, at the Wellawatte pumping station. Since our entry into the piling industry, we have introduced modern piling rigs and contributed towards upgrading Sri Lanka’s construction industry by bringing in state-of-the-art machinery and training new generations with new skills. We were the first Sri Lankan company to build 1,800 mm diameter piles, as part of our work on Celestial Residencies. Currently, the proposed Hyatt Hotel, Celestial Residencies was Sri Lanka’s tallest structure, that required the construction of 164 piles in total. In 2005, we introduced secant piling to Sri Lanka, which has contributed towards expanding structural design and construction options in the country. In the current environment of lasting peace and economic and political stability, we plan to expand our services and increase our investments in the piling sector, to support Sri Lanka’s development story in the future. We look forward to a brighter future for Sri Lanka and the construction industry that is now emerging as a key national industry, and we hope to actively contribute towards the development and growth of this vital industry. Contracting is a business that necessitates constant control and focus. Risks must be managed and processes and governance must be fit for purpose and continuously applied. Today we look to the future with confidence and Nawaloka Piling is ready for the challenges ahead.
